Keep your engine cool this summer

African summers are synonymous with scorching temperatures. Cars can be seen over heating on the side of the freeway more frequently during stop-start traffic. As spring transitions into summer and temperatures soar, now would be the right time for motorists to safeguard against the risk of vehicle breakdowns due to overheating.

A vehicle’s cooling system is important to its operation and should be closely monitored, especially as the days warm up. The use of Antifreeze, or coolant as it is more commonly referred to, is critical to keeping the engine from overheating. Coolant and water levels in the vehicle should be checked regularly to ensure the maintenance of optimum engine temperature. Failure to do so may cause radiator overheating and result in expensive engine repairs that could cost thousands of Rands.

It is recommended you use a premium coolant, such as Holts AntiFreeze/Summer Coolant with anti-boiling protection of up to 112°C. It is formulated and blended in South Africa for African conditions and provides a five year drain interval. It is available in the four colours specified by vehicle original manufacturers. The blue, green, red and yellow solutions work by traveling through the cooling system and disperse the heat produced by the engine components. In addition, its ready-to-use formula contains rust inhibitors to prevent corrosion of metal components within the cooling system. Holts AntiFreeze/Summer Coolant is suitable for aluminum cylinder heads, petrol and diesel engines. Each variant is available in one, five and 20 litre pack sizes. The products, along with the comprehensive Holts Car Care range is brought to Southern Africa by the leader in automotive products, G.U.D. Holdings.
